Riverside Romance

Wandering the campus of GDUFS, I can really have a great time as well as stretching out mentally, breathing fresh air with a potpourri of scents at the foot of Baiyun Mountain. Too, seeing students reading on the green lawns and even taking photos the tranquil university campus to capture the beauty of GDUFS is enchanting, however, to be frank, the presence of riverside romance is much more impressive and which will be kept in my mind, forever, when I look back on these good days after graduation.

A clear river, called Lovesick River, flows slowly across the GDUFS campus from north to south. Lush trees grow high, reaching up to Heaven on both sides, appear to protect the river's peace like those loyal soldiers of the old palaces. So, walking along the riverside, we step back from the daily hustle of campus life to feel the inner peace in the shadows of the trees, especially in hot and stuffy summer months.

With autumn coming, I think Lovesick River is so breathtaking. Bauhinia petals falling on the surface and floating into the distance while the sparking river flows on sunny days.

Looking forward and to the side, amazingly, I can become so quiet and feel so free to dream wildly and, sometimes, ­I am really lucky to see a fish jump out of the water and fall again with a sudden splash.

In the morning, with the dew on the grass, I like to get up early to read a book sitting on the riverside. I am not lonely. Diligent students are everywhere. They sit on the benches along the lovely river, reciting words, practicing accents or reading articles with the crisp morning sun filtering down onto their hair and shoulders through the leaves. All look so hopeful and inspiring, filling me with motivation to study hard for a compelling future.

Riverside mornings are dynamic but the dusk is romantic. Sitting on the riverside at dusk,I can enjoy a beautiful sunset. The sun and the clouds are reflected in the river which looks like another mystery and one that is so colorful and reflects the world. At that moment I can totally understand why the Little Prince so loves sunset. When the breeze hits, thousands of leaves wobble, like the swaying strings of a violin playing a gentle folk tune that is universal. At the time many sweet couples can be seen having a walk along the river, whispering and smiling. I don't know why it is called Lovesick River but it is really a good place for lovers to have a date, and share a quiet and romantic moment. And someone whose sweetheart studies on another campus wishes the flowing river with moonlight to bring his/her love to the distant lover when that person is missing. It is sorrowful and maybe this is the reason for the river's sad name.

One rainy day I was walking along the riverside, planning to send postcards to my friends. At that time only a few people were on the road. It seemed I was the only one. I could even hear the sound when rain dropped onto the rivers surface causing a mist. Enjoying this scene was relaxing as if I were in my secret garden. Maybe one day, I will meet my Mr. Right when I am under a bright umbrella in the rain and walking along the river. Then, it is my turn to enjoy my romance on the river.
