Though I am not a gastronome, I am a one-hundred-percent-food-lover. I have tasted various kinds of foods just outside the Main and North Gates of GDUFS and found some places really suited to my taste. With the help of other diners' comments on the foods available, and based on my own experiences, my fellow students and I have established the categories,hoping they will help in adding to your dining pleasure!

Shaxian Snacks (沙县小吃)

Commentary: Shaxian snacks, as a type of Chinese traditional food, originates in Fujian Province. This cuisine is well-known for the unique flavor and low price. Mainly selling snacks, Shaxian Xiaochi has many branches all over China. There are two branches on this street but I strongly recommend the one nearest the North Gate as it is more authentic and has a better reputation.
Tip: Take-out service is available for orders of more than 10 Yuan.

Korean Pancake（韩国手卷饼）

Comment: Stuffed with fresh vegetables and other delicious ingredients, the pancake and the rice roll are very special Oriental snacks. When you are in no mood to eat tasteless rice, then you can come here to buy some pancakes and rice rolls for your lunch or dinner.

Comment: The restaurant is usually crowded with people at lunch or dinner time. Though the restaurant is small, people enjoy the atmosphere and the food here. For your enjoyment, there are open-air seats on the second floor. Korean food satisfies people of many different appetites. Whether you are a foreigner or Chinese, you will love the food here.

Comment: For sushi fans, Guzizai is a good place for you. It's a shop selling various types of sushi. You can choose the one kind you like or have many sorts of sushi combined together. Many people tend to buy the assorted sushi set with a bottle of apple juice (28yuan) as a gift.

Commentary: Shenghui Roasted Goose is a restaurant providing many kinds of Cantonese cuisine and other leisure snacks. It impresses people with its tidy environment, clean cooking methods and kitchen and, most of all, the variety of fresh foods available. Of all the foods the Tingzai Porridge (a traditional Canton porridge) is a notable feature and is, in particular, recommended by many students.

Dishes and soup are of the home-made taste, gentle service and a relaxing atmosphere will surely make you feel at home. What's more, it provides take-out service. Comment: Featuring wafery wrapper and full stuffing, the dumplings are really nice! If you're a foreigner, you will greatly regret that you don't try dumplings in China. If you are Chinese, it will be really strange if you don't like the dumplings here.

Comment: Underground Milk Tea is known for its Hong Kong-style milk teas and enjoys a good reputation among GDUFS students...especially international students. When you get tired or thirsty, just walk out of the campus and you will see it immediately. Drink some tea and rest for awhile, talking with friends or playing your cellphone with the free WIFI...you will feel quite happy and relaxed.

Comment: Chalin has always been one of the most popular drink shops for students of GDUFS. It impresses people with its reasonable prices and good quality. It offers many kinds of tea, any of which you can choose the level of sweetness, heat and/or the quantity of ice to suit your appetite. You can buy a 700ml cup of tea for only 6 Yuan. Sounds wonderful, doesn't it?
TIP: Take-out service is available if you order two more cups. Still, they are so popular, if you have no patience, you'd better order 30 minutes in advance.
