On the morning of June 19, Mr. Jean Mari Kayembe, President of the University of Kinshasa (UNIKIN) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin welcomed the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. Both sides exchanged views on educational cooperation and cultural exchanges.

Meeting Scene
During the meeting, President Yan introduced the university’s history, educational vision, and unique strengths in the field of African studies. He noted that as one of the high-level universities with major development support in Guangdong Province, GDUFS has long aligned its development with regional needs while deeply engaging in the studies of global civilizational exchange, with distinctive academic strengths in African languages and cultures. The university has offered three specialized programs for less commonly taught African languages, namely Arabic, Swahili, and Hausa, and established a dedicated Institute for African Studies. President Yan expressed a strong interest in collaborating with UNIKIN on talent cultivation, joint research, and other potential fields, with the aim of contributing to the economic and trade contacts as well as cultural exchanges between China and Africa.

Signing Ceremony
President Jean Mari Kayembe expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception and provided a detailed account of UNIKIN’s development and school characteristics. As the largest comprehensive university in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, UNIKIN holds notable strengths in areas such as African history and cultural studies. He expressed the hope of drawing on the experience of Chinese higher education institutions and establishing a stable and enduring partnership with GDUFS and proposed practical cooperation in language instruction, scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and other fields.
Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Faculty of Asian and African Studies, the School of Global and Area Studies, and the Institute for African Studies of GDUFS were also present at the meeting. Following the meeting, the two sides conducted in-depth consultations on the relevant topics.
