November 26th - Earlier in November, Mr. Sui Guangjun, CPC Secretary of GDUFS, visited Santa Maria Catholic University of Peru, University of Santo Tomas of Peru and Brazil's Federal University of North Creek in response to the invitations from the above universities. The following university leaders also joined the delegation: Director of International Exchange Jiao Fangtai; Director of Research and Secretary-General of the Guangdong International Institute for Strategic Studies Li Jing; Spanish Lecturer from the Faculty of European Languages & Cultures Lin Jing; and Director of Portuguese Language Luo Yan.
CPC-Secretary Sui first visited the Confucius Institute of Santa Maria Catholic University of Peru on November 9th where he listened to the report on the work of the Confucius Institute. In attendance were Mr. Abel Tapia Fernandez, President f Santa Maria Catholic University; Mr.Julio Ernesto Paredes Nunez, the Former President; Peruvian Director Jaime Amado; and Chinese Director Li Shuo. Both the Peruvian and Chinese Directors offered detailed reports on the financial input, basic infrastructure, implementation of projects and future development. After listening to the report, Mr. Sui Guangjun pointed out that the Confucius Institute of Santa Maria Catholic University was the result of the joint effort of the leaders and faculties of the two universities and its achievements were somethithing to be proud of. He hoped that the two sides could further their cooperation in student exchange, teacher communication and collaborative research. Later, Mr. Sui Guangjun visited the Peruvian students and the Chinese teaching volunteers sent by GDUFS. Before he left, he was treated to a performance held by the Arts group of the university at Confucius Institute.

A meeting was held on November 10th that was attended by the following leaders from both universities: President of Santa Maria Catholic University Mr.Abel Tapia Fernandez; Former President Mr. Julio Ernesto Paredes Nunez; Vice President aspar, Dean of Engineering and Law School Dean; and other school administrators. After the meeting, Mr. Abel Tapia Fernandez awarded Secretary Sui with the title of Honorary Scholar of Santa Maria Catholic University. Mr. Sui Guangjun together with Mr. Abel unveiled the new Asia-Pacific Research Center of Santa Maria Catholic University. Later, the Mayor of Arequip, Simon Balbuena, granted Secretary Sui Honorary Citizen of Arequip. In his thank you speech, Mr. Sui xpressed his excitement about receiving the title. He said he was greatly impressed by the beauty and wonder of the great city of Arequip, and he would put forth his greatest effort in promoting development between the sister cities of Guangzhou and Arequip.

On November the 12th, Secretary Sui visited the University of Santo Tomas of Chile. The delegation carried a detailed discussion with the International Project Director of the university Mr. Roberto Lafontaine along with the Dean of the Administration College Dr. Carlos on the issues of dual degree Programs,student exchange programs, and building a cooperative college. An MBA Dual Degree Program Agreement between the two universities was signed.
On November 13th, the delegation met with Dr. Jaime Vatter Gutierrez, President of the University of Santo Tomas of Chile. Dr. Jaime expressed a warm welcome to the guests. Both sides reviewed the achievements of the cooperation in the areas of teacher exchange, student exchange, joint meeting and cooperative research after the Tripartite Forum (a forum organized by GDUFS, UST and Ling Tung University held in 2006). Both sides approved of the Tripartite Forum as an effective cooperative method and anticipate further cooperation in the future.

On November the 16th, Secretary Sui visited the Federal University of North Creek. The Acting President of the university Mr. Jose Ivonildo do R阦o expressed a warm welcome to Secretary Sui and his company. After listening to an introduction of the Federal University of North Creek, Secretary Sui made a brief outline of the history, school features and future development of GDUFS as well as the established partnerships with higher institutes in Brazil. Later, meetings were held between the two sides, attended by the International Office, the Development and Planning Office, the Portuguese Language Department and other teaching staff. Then, Secretary Sui together with Mr. Jose Ivonildo do R阦o signed a cooperation agreement between the two universities. Both parties hope that students in the Portuguese Department at GDUFS will soon be sent to study at the Federal University of North Creek and that a joint research project will be launched in the near future.
