President Zhong Weihe Visited the Director of Confucius Institute Headquarters

Feb.21th--President Zhong Weihe visited the counselor of State Council, director of Confucius Institutes Headquarters Xu Lin in Beijing on February 21th. He was accompanied by the director of International Relations Division of GDUFS. Mr.Zhong presented Xu with the current situation about the Confucius Institute established by GDUFS as well as some information about academic connections with the City College of New York (CCNY).

 

Mr. Zhong centered on four aspects of Confucius Institute, which are its daily operation mechanism, expenditure, presidential election and enhancement of cooperation. Within several years, GDUFS has taken an active part in cooperating with other overseas universities and successively set up three Confucius Institutes in Japan, Peru, and Russia. These established Institutes carried its respective advantages forward by developing various cultural activities and distinctive teaching method. All the achievements are gradually becoming indispensable components of urban culture in these cities.

 

Having learnt the situation about those three established Institutes, Xu Lin delightfully expressed that as a prestigious university featured by internationalization and located in the pioneering front of China, GDUFS is bound to undertake more responsibilities in the endeavor of spreading Chinese traditional culture. She is in favor of our application to set up Confucius Class in CCNY and stated that augmenting its size into a institute is also highly recommended. Xu Lin showed keen interest in CCNY 's project such as Chinese teacher qualification course and training Chinese teacher for schools. Xu also suggested seeing them as distinguished items of the Institutes in the future. With regard to this, Mr. Zhong promised that every step will be carefully implemented to ensure the establishment of this new Confucius Institute.
