November 7---The Vice President of Queensland University of Technology (QUT),Prof. Scott Shepherd, accompanied by his entourage, visited GDUFS and to meet with Party Secretary SUI Guangjun and other directors of GDUFS, making his visit a highlight of his tour to China.
On hearing of Vice President Shepherd's visit to China, Secretary SUI hurried back from Macao University, Hengqin Island, Zhuhai to give a warm personal welcome to him. Secretary SUI stated that GDUFS enjoys a close relationship with QUT and the two universities cooperate in various fields such as accounting, marketing, economics, commerce and others. He added that GDUFS has cooperation agreements with about 240 universities around the world and a close relationship with 70 universities, among which is the growing systematic exchange program with GDUFS. Through the exchange program, teachers and students sent to QUT has made great advances, academically as well as enhancing the skills of those involved. Secretary SUI described QUT as an "old friend" of GDUFS and he sincerely looks forward to further and frequent exchanges between the two universities.
Both sides seeking opportunities for further relationship
On the other side, Vice President Shephard expressed his gratitude for the invitation and for the warm welcome offered by GDUFS. Pleased with the accomplishment of exchange program of teachers and students from GDUFS, President Shephard said he was also looking forward to a closer relationship between two universities in other ways. He pointed out that, with the rapid development of Guangzhou's economy, the economic and commercial cooperation between both the universities and in terms of trade, both of which will surely promote the relationship between QUT and GDUFS, thus he was very optimistic about the prospects for further exchanges.
Accompanying Vice President Shephard, Annie Liu, Director of the Science and Technology Faculty and ZHONG Yu, Director of the International Department at Queensland are both ethnic Chinese. For them, Secretary SUI stated he hoped that they can be officials of both sides so as to set up a natural bridge of communication, firming the bond, a concept which received their positive responses.
"It became a very full day for me as I visited Guangwai." said Vice President Shepherd who had a full day tour of universities in GZ. He has been to GDUFS several times and there will be additional opportunities for him to meet his friends here in the future.
