May15th---Yang Changzhu, Korea's incoming general consul in Guangzhou paid a visit to GDUFS for the first time, accompanied by the former consul Cui Kangxi. President Zhong Weihe gave a gracious welcome to the general consul on the North Campus. Vice president Fang Fanquan and the Director of the International Office Jiao Fangtai also attended.
At the very beginning, President Zhong expressed his gratitude to the consul for visiting GDUFS in the midst of pressing affairs. He also stated that the Korean language major at GDUFS have progressed significantly since its establishment in 2003. Now the number of students majoring in Korean is over 200. Moreover, we have established academic relationships with many outstanding universities on both sides of the Peninsula, all of which were achieved with the assistance of the Korean Consulate in Guangzhou.

Consul Yang said that he felt greatly honored to visit GDUFS for the first time and he was impressed by the favorable environment of the campus. When he discovered that one sixth of the international students in GDUFS are from Korea, Consul Yang couldn't help expressing his admiration to our Internationalization strategy and promised that he would bring GDUFS to the Korean public in order to attract more Korean students to study here. Furthermore, he mentioned that today is Teacher's Day in Korea, so he would like to pay tribute to all the teachers. 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Korea, Consul Yang Said he will devoted himself to the cause of furthering the ties and communication of the two countries.
President Zhong introduced our involvement to the program 'Asian Campus' and our application for the program of producing trans-century elite with joint efforts made by Ritsumeikan University and Dongseo University, which will certainly further the cooperation and communication with Japan and Korea. It will also elevate the standard of Internationalization as a result. Afterwards, Consul Yang quoted 'Three intimacies' to describe Sino-Korea relationships. He said that two countries are blessed with geographic intimacy, cultural intimacy as well as civilian intimacy. In other words, China and Korea benefit from the favorable geographic distance, its common mindset, and its cultural and educational exchange with each other. Both sides shared their aspirations to make contributions to Sino-Korea relationship.
Finally, accompanied by President Zhong, Consul Yang visited the library, the audio classroom for simultaneous interpretation and made inscriptions for GDUFS.
