Walking along the curvy paths in the Culture Square in the midst of birds’ chirping, you can’t help getting lost in imaginary conversations with statues of Aristotle or Confucius. But your focus may be dragged back when you set eyes on the library bathed in red dawn light and its newly-added English sign on the front door.
In a free morning, you wander through the Current Periodicals Reading Area on the first floor thinking about picking up newspapers for today’s news, a perfect match for the morning. You lay them out on a wooden desk and start your reading journey.
The sunshine brightens the library
Stepping upstairs, thinking about picking up another new book for the following day, you may hesitate for a moment. The Chinese collection chamber is on the second floor, the foreign collections chamber is on the third floor. Where to go? For a while, no ideas flash into mind. But why bother your head about such trifles? Sometimes it’s not necessary to havea clear plan and anyway, it’s a morning without classes.
In the Chinese collections chamber, books are sorted in order. While walking around among those maze-like bookcases, what remains in the ears is the rhythmic sound of pages turning. Being wrapped by the fragrance of those books while enjoying the natural white noise, no one would resist going through several paragraphs of text which are full of wisdom or philosophical thoughts.
As time files, it’s time to work on the day’sassignments. There is a row of desks in the collections chamber for those students who want to read or learn. In spite of the fact that sometimes we find an available seat and have to start struggling through heavy tasks, these several hours are not so awful and tiring. Shifting your sight, the wide green out of the window and the clouds lumbering on the sky will fill up your eyes, your weary nerve will be eased. Better yet, during the onset of summer, the golden warm sunshine will be sprinkled on the desk through the glass, sitting there peacefully for a whole afternoon, probably the most wonderful thing in that season.
In the afternoons, lectures in Yuedu Salon are also a wonderland for students
Whether you are busy floating in the sea of books or tapping on your laptop’s keyboard and fretting over assignments, when stretching yourself in the chair and glancing through windows, you will find bars of after glow slant through trees and cast shadows on the ground. You get so tired that you really want to leave your unread pages or unfinished tasks behind and have a cup of coffee in the cozy Yunshan Hub, a coffee shop on the first underground floor, or even enjoy a film feast when it’s Sunday in the multi-purpose auditorium to spend the night.
Some students are still immersed in their worlds though it's 10 o'clock in the evening
For GDUFSers, spending a day in the library is like roaming in a wonderland. From mornings to nights, there are always surprises popping up.
