On the evening of 27th February, Ma Zuoping, the famous micro-nano scientist, an academic at the National Academy of Engineering, a foreign academic at the Chinese Academy of Science, and a Professor at Yale, came to the south campus of GDUFS and delivered an enlightening lecture entitled “The Evolution of Moore’s Law and IC Industry”. This high-end and cutting-edge lecture was hosted together by GDUFS and “Bao Ying” conglomerate in Shenzhen.
Before the lecture, the President of GDUFS, Zhong Weihe, the Vice President He Chuantian and Jiao Fangtai, met with the academic Ma Zuoping; the Chairman of the Chinese Association for Science and Business, Li Daxi; the Professor of Cornell University and team leader of “Jing Zhun” international medical institute, Zhou Pengbo; the Director of the National Supercomputing Center in Guangzhou, Yuan Xuefeng, and the Vice President of “Bao Ying” conglomerate, Gu Pu, in the welcome room.
In the Welcome Room
Zhong Weihe briefly introduced the development of GDUFS and emphatically introduced the advantageous language majors and the achievements in the business and engineering courses. He Chuantian led the visitors to the Business Department; the Center of Foreign language study and language services collaborative innovation and multi-lingual port; the International strategic research institute in Guangdong; the library, and the museum of the university’s history. Ma Zuoping was honored to visit GDUFS and was impressed by exclusively-English teaching in the MBA department, speaking highly of the fact that GDUFS pays much attention to cultivating the creativity of students.

In the lecture, Ma Zuoping at first spoke about his view that nowadays is the time of silicon and we are surrounded by all types of electronic products. In most developed countries, the electronic industry is of the biggest scale and is the fastest developing, with the highest raising rates in IC industry. And the electronic industry is the foundation of semiconductor technology. Ma Zuoping led the audience to review the evolution of integrated circuits in the past 50 years, thinking that as Moore's law develops to the limit, the integrated circuit industry will show different characteristics in both parts of technology and property.
Ma Zuoping Talking about IC Industry
Mr. Ma Zuoping has been researching Complementary Metal - Oxide Semiconductor (or CMOS) Gate Dielectric Technology for more than 10 years. This semiconductor is installed in computer memory and has three benefits, such as being electricity-safe, having rapid processing and cost savings. His work is to make future similar semiconductors use less electricity under high speed operation. And this technology can also be used in electrical appliances, such as mobile phones, radios, making semiconductor crystals smaller and run faster. Mr. Ma’s latest invention, Unipolar CMOS, a milestone breakthrough in the world's chip technology, which can improve 10 times the speed of logic circuit. He believes that China's integrated circuit industry has ushered in a new development opportunity, and China's high-tech enterprises should re-examine and reposition themselves, maintain strategic concentration, and unswervingly develop integrated circuits.

Brief introduction of Academic Ma Zuoping
Academic Ma Zuoping has been devoted to microelectronics technology research and has made great contributions in the cognitive science and technology development of metal/oxide semiconductors (MOS), especially in the science and technology of MOS gate dielectric, including high dielectric constant of a gate dielectric. Academic Ma Zuoping is joint Director of the Microelectronics Center of Yale University; joint Director of Microelectronics and Nanotechnology Center of Peking University-Yale University; leading expert in the field of nonvolatile memory, and an inventor of dynamic memory (FEDRAM e). In 2005, Mr. Ma won the Andrew Grove Award from the World Electronics and Electrical Engineering Institute, which is only awarded to a world-class researcher who makes remarkable contributions to computer science and technology annually. In 2006, the American Semiconductor Association awarded the University Researcher Award to Academician Ma Zuoping, who is the first Chinese to win the Award.
