Award Presentations on the Russian Day and Commemorization of the 70th Anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet Union's Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany

On June 19^th, the Russian Day and awards ceremony of the essay and painting contest commemorating the 70^th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War was held in the north campus of GDUFS. HUANG Qihao and YAN Kua from GDUFS won the special prize and the first prize respectively in the essay contest. The first prize in the painting contest was given to ZHENG Lingling from GDUFS.

The Consul-General of the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou, Mikhail Medvedev; Vice President of GDUFS, FANG Fanquan; head of International Cooperation and Exchanges, CAI Hong; Dean of the Faculty of Western Languages and Culture, YANG Ke; Chairman of Russia’s Asian Industrial Entrepreneur Union, and LIU Weining, (grandson of LIU Shaoqi);  the Cultural Attache of the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou; and Anna Nikulina, teacher from Sun Yat-Sen University, along with WANG Zhiyan, teacher from South China Normal University, WANG Jun as well as a teacher from South China Business College, YAN Qiuju attended the ceremony.

Mikhail Medvedev and FANG Fanquan delivered their speeches, mentioning that China and Russia have a long-term relationship, one which has been promoted when President XI Jinping was present by invitation at the 70^th anniversary commemorating the victory of the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, further consolidating the comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination between China and Russia and, at the same time conveying a message to the world that we should all respect the history and engrave it in our minds. FANG Fanquan, representing GDUFS, gave gifts to Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou and expressed heartfelt thanks for the support of this activity.

A fantastic art show followed the ceremony. The performers came from many universities in Guangzhou, such as South China Business College, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the English School Attached to GDUFS. Foreign students also performed on the stage. After the show, honored guests were invited to the Russian Center to further discuss how to play a more important role of the center and how to make deeper the communications and cooperation with each other. 

Russian Day is an activity sponsored by the Russian Center, buildt by the Russian World Fund and GDUFS, and the Russian Consulate General in Guangzhou. It has been held successfully for four years, attracting Russian-language major students from Guangdong, Fujian and Hainan and many other lovers of Russian language and culture.
