Three Olympics Athletes Brought a Shining Start to GDUFS's Second Library Culture Festival

Oct. 17th桾he 2nd Annual Library Culture Festival of GDUFS was held on October 14th. A meeting entitled, "Get Close to Qian Luo and the Olympic Stars Around Us" was held successfully in the basement of the north campus library.

 

Qian Luo, who won a silver medal in the team competition of synchronised swimming at the 2012 London Olympics, was there. Two gold medalists from the 2004 Olymics held in Athens were also there, namely, Jia Hu, winner of the men抯 10m platform, and Lishi Lao, winner of synchronised diving from the 10m platform. Party Secretary Guangjun Sui,along with other school leaders and over 200 students also attended this meeting at the opening ceremony.

 

Guangjun Sui gave a speech at the opening ceremony. He emphasized that libraries play a great role in modern society. They are not only the heart of a unversity, but also the base of the success. He expressed that the Library Culture Festival was a symbol of the development and maturity of GDUFS?libraries. He also said that the theme of this year's festival,揃lend? had a realistic significance. With the aim to develop a high-level university with international distinctive features before 2025, GDUFS needs to face different challenges and interactions to create a "blend" of ideas from different cultures. Conversing with the olympic stars, realizing their inspirational stories and cultivating their determined spirits was a perfect reflection of the theme.

Youqi Shi introduced the theme of this Library Culture Festival and he shared his hopes that participants would develop a deeper understanding about the meaning of ?Blend?through a series of themed activities. Apart from the Living Library, the main activities of this festival also included the micro film competitions, academic forums, and more!

The Chief Librarian, Fangfei Wu, made some illustrations about the Culture Festival. He said nowadays books are challenged by networks and digitization. That is why GDUFS held the festival, to improve the library's networks, strengthen the culture construction and promote humanistic values. Later, Guangjun Sui presented the olympic stars with souvenirs and posed for group photos.

The meeting was divided into three parts: 1)Getting close to Qian Luo, 2) getting to know Jia Hu and Lishi Lao, and 3) having a time for questions and answers. Throughout the event, the library played a video of  Qian Luo抯 competition in London and an interview from her teammate XiaoJun Chen. Audiences also reviewed her photos at various periods.

 

About how to balance training and study, Qian Luo expressed that though tired, she found a good balance beween these two necessities. Her teammate mentioned in the video that Qian Luo had never asked for leave because of illness or injury. Lishi Lao also said that because of sports, she became strong minded and learned how to deal with things in a better way. Laslty, Jia Hu said he believed that success was not far away, which helped him to persevere through his hardships.

The audiences took an active part in the question-and-answer portion and the three Olympic champions replied to the audience's various questions.

 

Before the opening ceremony, Party Secrety Guangjun Sui met the three Olympic stars in the Yunshan Station and he shared his hope that all of them would enjoy the university life and be able to share their experience with GDUFS students after graduation.
