The First Guangdong Award and International Volunteer Service Launched at GDUFS

October 14th--The Opening Ceremony and training meeting of the volunteer service for the Guangzhou Award and the Two International Sessions (Guangzhou International Urban Innovation Conference and Metropolis Board of Directors Meeting) was held in Yunshan Hall on the north campus of GDUFS. The one-month countdown to the Award Ceremony has begun and will take place in Guangzhou in November 2012. Over 800 students from 7 universities including Sun Yat-Sen University, South China University of Technology and, of course, GDUFS gathered at Yunshan Hall on the north campus to learn about volunteering in order to be better prepared for the service.

Deputy Director General Wang Fuchun served as the host of the ceremony. He began by introducing the basic information about the upcoming volunteer mission. Mr. Liu Baochun, Director General of Foreign Affairs Office of Guangzhou Municipal Government, emphasized the importance of volunteer work in promoting the international image of Guangzhou by reviewing the successful experiences and the solid reputation that Guangzhou has obtained over the past few years. Mr. Liu expressed his expectations in three areas; developing an overall sense, devoting themselves to practical volunteer activities, and taking part in international communications.

Mr. Lu Jinghui, Deputy-Secretary of GDUFS, appreciated all the support from the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the Guangdong Foreign Affairs on behalf of the Party and all the teachers and students from GDUFS.

After the Flag Presentation and Oath-taking Ceremony, all the volunteers that were present sang Together We Can Make It Better and began their one-day volunteer training.
