July 4th - On the afternoon of June 9th, the closing ceremony of the 1st HEMC Model United Nations Conference was held in the Administration Building in the South campus. After two days of fierce competitions, 8 awards freshly announced. Team "WE" from GDUFS won the Best Delegation Prize and Huang Jiayue won the Best Representative Prize. News came that our school and Chinese Model United Nations Association had reached a preliminary cooperation intention that the 10th Chinese Model United Nations Conference might be held in our university next year.

This year's conference was under the auspices of our university. 10 teams respectively from 10 universities such as South China Normal University and Guangdong University of Technology, etc represented different countries in the United Nations Development Program, discussing Arctic resources development issues. Although it was a model conference, all the rules and details are as the same as in the United Nations. "Delegates", men and women, to the requirements, all wore dull-color suits. They debated, put forward motions, formed an alliance, and wrote the file or draft and so on so forth in English.

In the conference, Huang, the student from School of Journalism and Communication of GDUFS, won the Best Delegate Prize with her perfect pronunciation, fluent and impressive expression and her willing mind.

During the closing ceremony, Liu Huang - General Secretary of Organization Committee spoke highly of the performance and cooperation of the contestants. He pointed out the fact that our society needs all-round and high-caliber personnel and the MUNC was just providing the stage for students to learn and practice. Zhu Wenzhong - Vice director of Postgraduate appreciated the contestants' hard work and he considered the conference as a discussion. Every single person should learn a lot from it. Mo Yancong - Chairman of the Model United Nations Conference said that it was the process not the motions or prizes that made the conference more meaningful. "Everybody in this game was more or less aware of their own shortcomings, which itself is a progress." said him.

The friendship between the contestants had increased greatly during the cooperation and communication. They even organized a "concert" just before the closing ceremony. They excited each other to sing songs even in a UN motion way.

The contestants generally said they had learned a great many things during this experience. They broadened the horizon when searching for information and completing the ideas.
