The Yunshan Language Training Center: An Extended Language Learning Platform

Editor’s note: The Yunshan Student Work-Study of GDUFS was established in September 2003. To date, it has founded 22 venues for work-study, including the Yunshan Coffee House, Yunshan Fitness Room, Yunshan Bakery and the Yunshan Images, providing nearly 2000 work-study positions for students in total. All of these economic entities are managed independently by students under the guidance of the Student Work Department. Students can hold the posts of directors, managers and employees, providing an opportunity for them to fully utilize their enthusiasm and creativity. The Yunshan Student Work-Study program achieves the dual goals of aiding students in need and cultivating entrepreneurial practice, allowing them to better engage with the market and society. This series aims to introduce the“Yunshan Work-Study Program”to better deepen appreciation and understanding of the program on campus.

To celebrate the beginning of the new semester, on March 2nd, The Yunshan Language Training Center launched its spring recruitment day on campus, which attracted extensive attention and participation from students. This left no doubt in anyone’s mind that this year the Yunshan Language Training Center will continue providing an excellent extracurricular language learning platform for students who sign up to join its courses.

The Yunshan Language Training Center (here in after referred to as “Yupei”）is a language training center with four departments: a Teaching Department, Office, Finance Department and Public Publicity Department. The Teaching Department is mainly responsible for the operation of the language training course; the Office is in charge of the daily management of language training internally; the Finance Department is responsible for the management of Yupei materials and assets; and the Public Publicity Department take care of the operation and management of online public accounts as well as the design of offline event publicity materials, as well as external cooperation and negotiation. The four departments each perform their own duties and work closely together to promote the development of the Yupei family.

At present, Yupei offers basic learning courses in Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish, German, Thai, Italian, Russian, English speaking, English, and Cantonese, giving full play to the advantages of multilingual teaching and providing a high-quality language learning platform for students. In the spirit of their slogan, “Learn a new world with us”, Yupei welcome college students from various backgrounds as well as anyone else who might be interested in learning languages.

Yupei has a good teaching environment. Classes are held on Saturdays and Sundays on the south campus, where the classrooms are equipped with multimedia equipment and air condition. One of the students said: “I feel like home while studying inside.” In addition to teachers, to follow up on lessons and improve the quality of teaching, students also have a teaching assistant. Different kinds of courses have different prices, but they are generally affordable. People can choose the courses according to their needs.

As Fu, one of the students attending in the Japanese language class, said, “After one semester of studying Japanese in Yupei, I have acheived new gains in language learning. The teacher's knowledge also deepened my understanding of Japan.” For students participating in the courses, their language ability will be greatly improved, for they can choose the language they are interested in to learn, which complements their learning in their own majors. Learning different languages can broaden their horizons and help them feel the charm of knowing more languages.

For students who act as instructors and staff, they can demonstrate and improve their working ability. Also, of course, they earn wages as a reward. “If you have excellent and creative ideas, or have the ambition to show your skills, or want to meet more friends, Yupei is the best choice for you,” said Hu Yue, the manager of Yupei.

Yupei is not only a platform for self-improvement, but also a big warm family. If you are interested in language learning or improving yourself in your spare time, becoming a member of the Yupei family is a good choice. Yupei is also constantly improving its operation, so let us look forward to the future of Yupei.
