International students’ fertile brains are a storehouse of brilliant ideas. All groups came up with their unique projects within a short period of time, which after 4 weeks turned into real charity events. They managed to raise a good amount of money by means of selling goods, organizing activities and others.

The charitable organizations of these international students are various but all of them had done a good job. Some did their best to getting donated new or used products such as shoes and clothes; some chose to raise money by interesting competitions like holding the bar and hanging for two minutes above the ground and football matches; some by organizing an amazing pub party to get profits; while others would like to sell T-shirts and high quality, delicious homemade sandwiches and desserts and reliable facial masks, shower gels and shampoos at a reasonable price.

With the intention of raising money in a more cost-effective way, some groups took full advantage of the hobbies of young people, organizing theme parties and stimulating tournaments. For example, the party, “Life in Color”, was the most profitable, gaining net profit of 5,000 RMB. According to the manager of the club, the neon event was a success as foreigners were not the only ones who enjoyed it, but also those from Chinese society had fun, as they were painting themselves and “popping bottles.” That was a neon party held by a group with tickets costing 100 RMB each. Graced by paints, luminous bracelets and firework bought online, the party ended up with bringing in 6,000 RMB. And everyone got a real kick out of it.

Furthermore, one group, after making a profit by holding a pool party, they reinvested the money in creating VPNs and then sold them to international students. With a 200-yuan initial fund, this group succeeded in making the profit rise over 200% within a month.

Among the organizations, a creative group sold home-made candles to raise money for Nepal. As a symbol of hope, these candles were imbued with their deepest concern and compassion. What they wanted was not only donating money but also conveying spiritual comfort to those who suffered in Nepal.

Another group got in touch with a garment factory in Guangzhou. Through negotiating, they were allowed to buy the clothing in large quantities at 200% discount. Then they sold them to students, friends and people outside the campus and they brought off the sale by netting 650 RMB.

In addition to the hard work of all the resourceful students, the support given by people from all walks of life was also vital for their accomplishments.

Their tutors, Kate and Joshua, helped them to analyze the feasibility of different ideas, to think into other team members’ way and to arrange team cooperation, because all members came from different counties with different culture, religions as well as values. Full approval also came from the GDUFS administration office for publicizing their projects and holding football tournaments in campus.

Arab Community President in Guangzhou, Mr. Ahem Husain Alyafee gave a response and strong support to the organization, We Help, promising that the shipment would be done by the Arab Community in Guangzhou as soon as the clothes reached around 11,000 pieces.

What’s more, some businessmen also reached out to them, offering sponsorships and free venues. The manager of the pub offered the pub to “Life in Color” without charging any money; Mr. Wang, a kind and warm-hearted local entrepreneur, was willing to provide an organization with help and supply them his cosmetics as he believed that “this was a good deed and unforgettable experience for young undergraduates to practice business for charity.”; and a clothing factory offered an 200% discount to the organization who did clothes and sold them.

People also supported the international students when knowing that students were doing social good. They responded positively—they bought the good and took part in the activities without any hesitation.

As a group member said, “All of us are doing charity. We work together to make the world more beautiful”

Finally, all the money they had raised was donated to people in need through charities.
