 March 30-On the morning of March 26, the Third BRICS B-School Student's meeting was held on the North Campus. It was hosted by the Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS) and undertaken by the MBA Education Center of GDUFS. With an attendance of over 60 experts along with students from 11 universities of the five countries that form BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, South Africa and China), this was the first time that the international meeting took place in China. The entire meeting, which lasted two days, centered on the responsibility of young managers under globalization with several keynote speeches by experts and students.

The guests were welcomed by GDUFS. Shi Youqi, Vice President of GDUFS also emphasized the great significance of this meeting in the teaching history of MBA programs. J. Philips, the founder of ABBS, expressed his great appreciation and also his amazement of GDUFS' wide international cooperation.

Mr. Shi inaugurated the meeting with the expectation that the five countries would continuously seek new approaches to achieve mutual benefit. Besides, Mr. Xu Erming, the new Chairman of ABBS and also the Vice Dean of the Postgraduate School from the People's University of China pointed out that Guangzhou, being China's economic and cultural base, was the world's perfect means for understanding China. Under the context of globalization, the five countries of BRICS should shoulder the responsiblity of cultivating international managers to meet new challenges.

During the meeting, there were 9 experts and students who made excellent speeches centered on the responsibility of young managers under globalization. Mr. Meng Qingxuan, Director of the MBA Center, proposed that BRICS' financial enterprises would find their way out in the process of reorganizing the emerging market. Since the three prominent features of the emerging economy are transformation, reorganization and capital expansion, the enterprises should reorganize their strategies and structures for stronger and speedier development. Mr. Ravindranthan, speaker from Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship, expounded on the significance of cultivating international, professional managers with social responsibility and the capability of tackling business under globalization. Also, Mr. Nandagopal, Doctor from the PSG Institute of Management in India attached importance to the managers' global vision with the realization of cultural differences.

Later, Professor Ramesh Venkateswaran from the SDM Institute of Management and Development in India, Professor Blasubramanian from the GRG Institute of Management, Professor Anesh Singh from University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, and Professor Xie Wenli from Shantou University all expressed their opinions on the weight of responsibility of young managers under globalization.

In the afternoon, the first BRICS University Students' Business Case Competition was initiated in the Library Lecture Hall on the North Campus. The contenders were nine representatives from seven universities from the five countries. In the end, first prize went to Shantou University and GDUFS came in third. The University of KwaZulu-Natal from South Africa obtained the title of "Most Popular Team".

 

Introduction to ABBS:

The concept of BRICS originated from BRICs, which was proposed by Jim O'Neill, the top world famous economist on December 20, 2001 and stand for four countries including Brazil, Russia, India and China. Due to the prosperity of South Africa, the former BRICs of four Countries changed into BRICS of five countries with the addition of South Africa. GDUFS is one of the founders of Association of BRICS Business Schools (ABBS), which was founded in Bangalore on January 30, 2009.
