October 30th was bound to be an unforgettable day as the 6th World Culture Festival Evening Gala, with “Harmonious World, Blissful Guangwai” as its theme, welcomed guests from around the campus at Yunshan Hall. Sponsored by the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange and the Institute for International Education, students from more than 5o countries or regions actively participated in this grand gala.
As Yang Xuehong, Dean from the Institute for International Education, expressed in Chinese and English sincere gratitude to organizations that showed strong support for the festival and started the countdown, the gala was officially kicked off. Overflown with enthusiasm, students from different countries danced together accompanied with fast pace and rhythmic beat. Then followed an eye-catching fashion show, in which those students dressed in their classic folk costumes.

After those performs multinationals, a series of exotic dances or songs, from some traditional ones to some fashion ones continued rising the fever of the great gala. It seemed that the actors on the stage enjoyed every shining moment, keeping moving and smiling. The audience responded sincerely those colorful shows rounds of cheer and applause.

An advanced celebration of Halloween surprised the entire hall. Creepy costumes and masks, bloodcurdling music, dancing and moving like zombies, thrilled everyone but gained a great atmosphere.

When came the climax of the great gala, an amazing skit” Fun of Recruitment” in Chinese was on. Besides the diverting story, what won the most admiration were those typical roles in Chinese culture and fluent words in mode. The actors dressed up and performed exactly accorded with the characters, which tickled all the present, arousing intermittent bursts of laugh and applause.

The GDUFS World Culture Festival gala offers a platform for international students not only to display their cultures and customs, but also to learn and show Chinese culture. So during the blissful time, one could appreciate a yangko folk dance of foreign version, enjoy a Chinese song named Friend in different languages, even be affected by the fashionable dance called Little Apple.

Chinese students also showed to our foreign friends Chinese martial arts, undoubtedly caught everyone’s eyes. And some foreigners backstage and among the audience were increasingly intrigued by Chinese culture as they tried to imitate the flexible and dynamic moves.
At the end, a host invited all the audience to sing the anthem of GDUFS” Phoenix Singing over Lingnan” with the performers. The 6th World Culture Festival in 2014 brought us a wonderful night. Date with you the very day next year!
