As a new round of Military Training begins, those lively freshmen in green military uniforms can be seen almost everywhere, adding much vitality to the campus. They always keep a high spirit in every activity and bring about a sense of being refreshed. And a vivid military experience is more likely to be retained!

The Military Training

On a scorching hot afternoon, many “green freshmen” gathered before the Library or in the playground, well-uniformed. Though they came from different regions and backgrounds, at this moment, they shared the same opportunity to unlock the first secret of the university life - Military Training.

The most basic requirement of Military Training for them is to stand like soldiers. The instructor was very strict with every freshman’s performance, and patiently corrected all inappropriate postures. They had to stand still under the scorching hot sun for long periods of time. When the extreme heat began to overwhelm their bodies, all they desired was heavy rain to cool the high temperature. To their disappointment, the sunshine turned out to be much harsher, and more sweat poured down from their foreheads. A quarter of an hour later, they finally got a chance to have rest and drink some water. When asked about their feelings of military training, a group of freshmen complained about the extremely tiresome course.

At the first beginning, they did not get used to such training and often made mistakes. Even worse, some of them were too weak to continue the training. One time, due to the whole day of exhausting training, some freshmen wanted to have a nap in the military politics lecture. However, after the instructor discovered these sleepy “greens”, he punished them with another hour-long training at night. “We have learned the importance of strictly observing the orders and prohibitions through this training. Although we admire our instructor, sometimes he can be utterly rigorous towards us”, said one of the punished.

Despite the painstaking postures training, the happiest time for all was to sing military songs in the evening. One of the freshmen explained, “I really enjoyed it! When singing together, a feeling of solidarity rises in me. And I found myself beginning to merge in”. For most of them, it was a great opportunity to make more friends and ease the tension of an overall new environment.

After a week, these freshmen surprisingly found that they had developed a kind of affection to their seemingly rigorous instructor. Even though the instructor could be very serious during the training, he was very kind and cared about every one after training.

Now these freshmen are training in the playground. They behave more like soldiers, marching in orderliness. A sense of confidence and unhurriedness manifests their hard work over the past ten days. It is believed that they have already learned many valuable lessons during this training and will perform even better by repeatedly practicing at the Military Parade Performance.

Two freshmen from Women's Dagger Matrix, i.e. a group to learn a set of dagger actions, Zhang and Liu, said, “It took us great efforts to imitate such set of dagger actions. Owing to its difference from other standard actions like goose-step, we paid a lot of attention and felt more exhausted. These days, we had many bruises on our shoulders and hips due to repeatedly practicing the same action. Although it was very hard, we were pleased that we could finally master it.

Another freshman Zhang, from Integrated Tactical Matrix, explained that he had been through many changes, such as getting up earlier, and more importantly, working more efficiently. He had also learned the importance of punctuality.

They are soon going to show their final performance, so they are still practicing. No hesitation can be seen in their looks even without instructions. Marching at a steadfast pace in front of the rostrum, they finally became stronger!

From now on, they have to say goodbye to this painstaking but meaningful training. And a completely new university life for them is just about to begin!
