The Yellow Crane Tower is a renowned historic tower which was first built in 223AD. The current structure, however, was rebuilt in 1981 at a spot one kilometer away from the original site and bear little resemblance to the original one. The tower stands on the Snake Hill, at the bank of Yangtze River in Wuchang District, Wuhan, in Hubei Province.

Viewing the east from the Yellow Crane Tower, we can see the eastern part of the Snake Hill in the middle and the red-brick compound of the Wuchang Uprising Memorial on the right. Warfare and fires have destroyed the tower for many times. In the Ming and Qing dynasties alone, the tower was destroyed for 7 times and was reuilt and repaired for 10 times. The tower in the Qing dynasty was built in 1868 and was destroyed in 1884. In 1981, the government of Wuhan decided to rebuild the tower and completed it in 1985.

The tower was made famous by an 8th-century poem called "Yellow Crane Tower" by Cui Hao, a famous Chinese poet. Li Bai, the greatest Chinese poet, has also written a poem when parting with his friend Meng Haoran which has been passed down for generations.

Standing on the top of the tower, we can have a broad view of the surroundings including Yangtze River. The Yellow Crane Tower is considered as one of the Great Towers of China. Despite its ancient appearance, the tower was built of modern materials and was even equipped with an elevator when it was built in 1981. The tower is classified as National 5A scenic spot by China National Tourism Administration.
