University of Adelaide Delegation Visits GDUFS

On the morning of November 17, Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Adelaide, Australia, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Shen Minghao welcomed the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides held in-depth discussions on their cooperation programs and then signed an agreement.

Highlight from the Meeting

Vice President Shen extended a warm welcome to the delegation and reviewed the progress made by the two universities since their last meeting. He noted that GDUFS continues to advance its internationalization in education. In the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings, GDUFS currently ranks 90th globally in international collaboration, 165th worldwide and 6th in China in Arts and Humanities, and its Economics and Business programs are ranked among the top 200 globally. Moreover, its strength in the liberal arts ranks first among foreign language universities in China. In recent years, GDUFS has been actively promoting the establishment of interdisciplinary double bachelor’s degree programs so as to better meet the growing demand for interdisciplinary talent in China and the rest of the world. He expressed the hope that this cooperation would help improve the quality of student intake and broaden admissions channels, deepen the partnership, and establish a high-level platform for educational cooperation between China and Australia.

Professor Gallagher thanked GDUFS for the warm reception and congratulated GDUFS on its rapid development. She outlined the significant strides made in the merger of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia to form a new university. Over 400 new programs are planned to be rolled out gradually starting next year, which will further advance higher education in Australia. She pointed out that the present moment offers an excellent opportunity to expand cooperation between the two universities. Looking ahead, she noted that international business could serve as a key focus, supported by interdisciplinary collaboration. She hoped to explore innovative models of cooperative education and advance the implementation of specific cooperation arrangements, jointly building a hub for educational exchanges between the two countries.

Highlight from the Signing Ceremony

Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Academic Programs Division, the School of English for International Business, and the International College at GDUFS were also present at the meeting. During the meeting, the two universities signed a letter of intent for cooperative education projects.
