Delegation from ASEAN–China Centre and Center for Language Education and Cooperation Visits GDUFS

On the morning of September 23, a delegation led by Shi Zhongjun, Secretary-General of the ASEAN–China Centre (ACC), visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin received the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building on the Baiyun Mountain Campus. They held in-depth discussions on language and cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN countries and the cultivation of translation talents. Vice President Shen Minghao was also present.

Highlight from the Meeting

Yan Xiangbin warmly welcomed the delegation and gave an overview of GDUFS, international talent training, and discipline development. He noted that the university has established a dual-track model combining foreign language and non-language disciplines, and is the only university specializing in foreign languages and international trade listed in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings. He highlighted that GDUFS students are active in international organizations and that its international talent cultivation system has been increasingly recognized. He stressed that the Chinese Translation Training Program for government officials of ASEAN Member States(AMS), jointly launched by the ACC, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), and GDUFS, is a valuable opportunity for the university to leverage its strengths and serve national strategies. With the support of the ACC and CLEC, he expressed hopes to build the program into a long-term brand, strengthen talent cultivation and alumni engagement, and further advance educational and cultural exchanges between China and ASEAN countries.

Shi Zhongjun commended GDUFS for its achievements in international exchange and talent development. He emphasized that as China–ASEAN relations deepen and ASEAN countries show great potential, it is vital to implement national-level consensus and deepen practical cooperation. He noted that GDUFS can play a strong role by using its academic, strengthening people-to-people exchanges, and promoting collaboration in economic and cultural fields. He added that the ACC will continue to serve as a bridge, supporting GDUFS in running such training programs and contributing to regional cooperation and the development of friendly relations.

Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies of GDUFS were also present at the meeting. Afterward, the delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Chinese Translation Training Program for government officials of AMS, themed “Language Bridges ASEAN, Translation Leads the Way.”
