Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand Visits GDUFS

On the afternoon of September 14, Alex Zhang, Executive President of the Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Shen Minghao met the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building on the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides engaged in friendly exchanges on topics including the university’s academic development, alumni relations, and China-New Zealand educational cooperation.

Highlight from the Meeting

At the meeting, Shen Minghao introduced the history of GDUFS and achievements in discipline development. He pointed out that the university has always adhered to an internationalized approach to education and has established cooperative relationships with 518 universities and academic institutions across 67 countries. In the U.S. News 2025–2026 Best Global Universities Rankings, GDUFS ranks 90th globally for international cooperation. Massey University and other institutions are important partners of GDUFS. He noted that the university’s programs for cultivating well-rounded, interdisciplinary talents are well recognized by the market, student quality continues to improve, graduates have strong employability, and graduates’ salaries consistently rank among the top of higher education institutions in Guangdong province. He emphasized that the university’s research capabilities continue to strengthen, with notable achievements in technology transfer and social services. Shen added that Guangdong and New Zealand have a solid foundation for cooperation and looked forward to further expanding and deepening practical collaboration between GDUFS and New Zealand in education, research, and culture. He also hoped to use the Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand and the alumni network as bridges to jointly promote China-New Zealand cultural exchanges and economic cooperation.

Alex Zhang expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and pride in the achievements of his alma mater. As an alumnus from the Class of 1989, he recalled his study experiences at GDUFS and introduced the efforts of the Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand in promoting China-New Zealand economic, educational, and cultural cooperation. He stated that he will continue to serve actively as a bridge, facilitating cooperation projects between GDUFS and New Zealand universities and related institutions, supporting alumni-founded enterprises in expanding into the New Zealand market, and providing more opportunities for GDUFS students to study, intern, and gain work experience in New Zealand. Looking ahead, he hopes to further strengthen ties with his alma mater and continue exploring more possibilities for cooperation.
