Delegation from Massey University of New Zealand Visits GDUFS

On the afternoon of May 27, a delegation from Massey University of New Zealand, led by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Tere McGonagle-Daly, visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Shen Minghao met with the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides exchanged views on a range of topics including educational cooperation and cultural exchange.

Highlight from the Meeting

Vice President Shen extended a warm welcome to Deputy Vice-Chancellor McGonagle-Daly and his delegation, and provided a comprehensive overview of GDUFS’s history, educational philosophy, and international development. He noted that GDUFS stands out as an important base in South China for international talent cultivation and studies of foreign languages and cultures, global economic governance, foreign-related rule of law, and international communication of Chinese culture. Shen highlighted that the university has established a comprehensive academic program system centered around 37 national and 29 provincial first-class undergraduate programs, including 33 foreign language majors. GDUFS places great emphasis on nurturing high-caliber graduates with global perspectives, professional competence, and cross-cultural communication skills. Many alumni are actively contributing to international organizations, diplomacy, and multinational enterprises, playing key roles in promoting mutual learning between civilizations. He expressed hope for broader cooperation with Massey University in faculty and student exchange and talent development, with the goal of advancing higher education cooperation between China and New Zealand.

Highlight from the Agreement Signing Ceremony

Deputy Vice-Chancellor McGonagle-Daly expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and highly praised GDUFS’s achievements in international development and talent cultivation. He introduced Massey University’s disciplinary strengths in creative arts, business, and other fields, and reflected on the successful cooperation already established with GDUFS. Looking ahead, he expressed interest in deepening strategic collaboration, including academic resource sharing, joint degree programs, and interdisciplinary research. He especially emphasized the importance of empowering education to nurture global citizens with international perspectives, professional capabilities, and a strong sense of social responsibility, thereby contributing to intercultural understanding and sustainable global development.

Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the School of English for International Business, the School of Business, the School of Finance, the School of Journalism and Communication, the College of Art, and the International College were also present at the meeting. Afterward, both sides held further discussions on potential collaborative projects. The Massey University delegation also visited the GDUFS History Museum to gain deeper insight into the university’s development, academic achievements, and cultural heritage.
