Delegation from the University of Dar es Salaam Visits GDUFS

On the morning of July 6, a delegation led by William A.L. Anangisye, President of the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin warmly welcomed the guests at the VIP Hall of the Administration Building on the Baiyun Mountain Campus. Both sides exchanged views on the Swahili language program development, international talent cultivation, and inter-university cooperation.

President Yan introduced the academic character of GDUFS and provided an overview of the university’s Swahili language program. He highlighted that GDUFS is the only university in South China offering a Swahili language major, and the meeting marked a significant step in international cooperation for the program. Yan emphasized the long-standing friendship between the people of China and Africa, stating that language serves as a bridge for cultural exchange and mutual understanding, playing a key role in fostering cooperation. He expressed his hope for future collaboration with the prestigious University of Dar es Salaam in areas such as academic program development, talent cultivation, faculty exchange, and research cooperation, ultimately promoting interdisciplinary and multi-level exchanges. He also underscored the importance of contributing to the development of Sino-Tanzanian relations and China-Africa ties more broadly.

President Anangisye praised GDUFS for its academic achievements and noted that the University of Dar es Salaam is a globally renowned institution with extensive academic programs and a comprehensive student training system. He highlighted the deep and enduring friendship between Tanzania and China and expressed his eagerness for both universities to collaborate further in fields such as economics, management, and law. He hopes that their joint efforts will cultivate internationally competitive talents and contribute to the prosperity and development of both nations.

Officials from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the Faculty of Asian and African Studies at GDUFS also attended the meeting. Afterward, the delegation held in-depth discussions with the Faculty of Asian and African Studies on talent cultivation, faculty development, and scientific research.
