Editor’s note: The Yunshan Student Work-Study of GDUFS was established in September 2003. To date, it has founded 22 venues for work-study, including the Yunshan Coffee House, Yunshan Fitness Room, Yunshan Bakery and the Yunshan Images, providing nearly 2000 work-study positions for students in total. All of these economic entities are managed independently by students under the guidance of the Student Work Department. Students can hold the posts of directors, managers and employees, providing an opportunity for them to fully utilize their enthusiasm and creativity. The Yunshan Student Work-Study program achieves the dual goals of aiding students in need and cultivating entrepreneurial practice, allowing them to better engage with the market and society. This series aims to introduce the “Yunshan Work-Study Program” to better deepen appreciation and understanding of the program on campus.

For most students, college is the stepping stone to a stable job. With that in mind, a part-time job is a valuable opportunity for students to get in touch with society, where students can experience work and accumulate experience in advance. Some students get extra money through part-time work and successfully cover their living expenses, while others may find internships and workplaces through part-time jobs.

The Yunshan Part-time Service Office is the only school-level public welfare platform offering part-time services in Guangwai. While primarily focused on students, the office is also open to teachers and other individuals. Their office is located in the Student Services Hall, where students can easily get access.

Q: What process should students follow to get the part-time job they want?

A: Each recruitment post will be accompanied by contact details (usually the email address of the part-time office staff or the WeChat of the recruiter), and students can send their resumes to the designated mailbox.

The Part-time Office has also made a resume template for students, which can be obtained through the official account or WeChat group.

After the resume is delivered, we will have a staff member contact the classmate within three days to inform them of the result. Students who pass the initial screening of resumes will be interviewed by clients under the arrangement of the Part-time Office.

After passing the interview, students should contact the staff of the Part-time Office and sign a tripartite agreement to protect the interests of all.

Q: Where does Part-time Office usually get its information about jobs?

A: Generally, HR will contact us by public account, email or phone after they learn about the part-time job.

Q: Will the Part-time Office select part-time jobs? What kind of part-time jobs will be selected to introduce to students?

A: Yes. The Part-time Office will collect the business license, corporation ID card and other legally valid documents of the recruiter, and check whether there is a record of breach of trust and breach of contract to protect the legitimate rights and interests of students. In the process of docking with recruiters, the office will try their best to obtain higher salaries and subsidies for students. Considering the course schedule of students, the office tries to provide part-time jobs with relatively flexible working hours. In addition to part-time information, the part-time office will also publish information about internship recruitment to meet the needs of students.

Q: Would you personally recommend part-time work to colleagues during your time at school? Why? What kind of part-time job do you recommend?

A(the manager): I personally recommend it very much. After all, what’s learned from books is superficial, and it's crucial to have it personally tested somehow. Part-time work is a practical opportunity for us to contact the society, where we can learn a lot of things that are not in textbooks. Through part-time work, you can step on fields that you're interested in in advance to see if you are suitable for that type of work, which provides more valuable references for future career planning, and the cost of trial and error is small.

As for what kind of job, you may choose it completely according to your personal situation. Some people like those with high professionalism, while some like to be relaxed and flexible. There is no right or wrong. I think that if you dare to try, you will definitely gain something. Just start with the part-time job that’s right for you!

Q: Through what channels can students receive part-time information?

A: Generally, by subscribing to the official account of the part-time office [Guangwai Benbu Jianzhiban]. The Part-time Office will update the daily recruitment information on the official account. Or you can join the part-time WeChat group of your grade, and get the recruitment information in a timely manner.
