As a university of foreign studies with the motto “Practice and Cross-cultural Learning”, GDUFS is inclusive and encourages every student to develop their interests. Consequently, there are various types of fascinating clubs at GDUFS.
To get a head start, some clubs even set up group chats on WeChat to recruit during the summer holiday, and some students have already decided which clubs they want to join since then. From September 23rd to 30th, clubs carried out many activities to recruit new members. What’s more, in order to attract freshmen, senior students in some clubs set up stalls all along the avenues of the school and presented wonderful performances, while some other clubs put up their posters along the Xiangsi River to attract students’ attention.
All the clubs did their best to attract new members. Some seniors from the Wushu club lined up to exchange punches and kicks, which shocked a lot of students and aroused the other students’ interest. The beautiful songs from the oasis music club wafted through the whole campus. Some clubs also offered mini-games and gifts and there were lucky draws interspersed with them. The English drama club not only presented several short plays, but also invited students to experience it on the spot. The whole campus atmosphere was very lively. And the stall promotions were obviously helpful in getting students’ interest since they could know the characteristics and the work the club needed to do directly. Moreover, many students said that it was the promotions that convinced them to join the club they eventually decided on.
Attracting new members
The process of joining a club is simple. Most of the clubs will conduct two interviews or writing tests and the interviewers will judge students’ competence based on the performance. But there’s no need to be stressed out because another purpose of the interviews is to give the newcomers a general idea of the club and prevent them from feeling out of place too soon. After joining the club, there will be regular training and meetings to clarify missions and the newcomers can improve through practicing.

As it is known to all, clubs are good places to enrich students’ after-class lives. Students who share the same interests gather regardless of age or grade. With the help of friends met in the clubs, the freshmen can not only settle into university life more readily, but also gain many incredible experiences. More significantly, it is a good opportunity to extend their social circle as well as work with seasoned predecessors. From an interview with the freshmen at GDUFS, some of them attend a club mainly to promote their professional abilities in various aspects, some want to participate in relevant competitions like debating, others just to avoid being so laid-back and want to have fun. Genuine knowledge comes from practice. Joining the clubs, students will have more chances to acquire it.
In general, all of the clubs at GDUFS are fascinating and they will definitely be an unforgettable memory of your university’ life. So don’t hesitate any more, find a club that you are interested in and join!
