Delegation from the Consulate General of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Guangzhou Visits GDUFS

North Campus, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, October 16th, 2020Martín Andrés ALVEZ LEMOS, the Consul General of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Guangzhou, led a delegation to visit GDUFS on the afternoon of October 16th, 2020. Shi Youqi, President of GDUFS, greeted the guests in the VIP Hall of the administration building on the north campus.

Shi Youqi conveyed his heartfelt welcome to the delegation. He pointed out that GDUFS attaches great importance to international communication and cooperation all the time and has carries out different projects with universities and organizations in South America. So far, GDUFS has interacted with schools in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Colombia and so on to conduct an exchange of students and teachers, as well as doing relevant research on Latin America. Confucius Institutes set up jointly by GDUFS and the Catholic University of Notre Dame in Arequipa, Peru, built a bridge for cultural exchange between China and South America. President Shi expressed that in this different and difficult year, considering the special situation, it is important to see how China and Uruguay supported each other and forged close unity in fighting against the pandemic. GDUFS also anticipates more communications with delegation from the consulate general of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Guangzhou, contributing to the cultural exchange between the two countries.

Martín Andrés ALVEZ LEMOS conveyed his pleasure to visit GDUFS again. After reviewing the achievements made by the delegation from the consulate general of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay in Guangzhou and GDUFS in recent years, he looked forward to opening new vistas for future cooperation soon. He mentioned that, though the epidemic had a certain effect on the exchange between China and Uruguay, it could never affect their friendship. He hoped that they could develop new forms of cooperation together with GDUFS begin collaborations on personnel exchange and the establishment of a Confucius Institute.

Members of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; the Faculty of European Languages and Cultures; and other related departments participated in the conference. After the meeting, the delegation made cooperative arrangements with relevant departments in some specific programs.
