On May 22nd,Mr.Krzysztof Ciebien, Polish Consul General in Guangzhou, visited GDUFS along with his delegation. President ZHONG Weihe gave them a warm welcome  in the VIP Hall of the North Campus. Mr. Ciebien is going to leave his current office and return to Poland. Before leaving, he wanted to express his appreciation to GDUFS for its contributions to China-Poland relations.

President ZHONG was very grateful to for Mr. Ciebien's devotion to China-Poland relationsduring his term of office, as well as his support to exchange projects between GDUFS and Polish colleges. A Polish language and culture major will be established  at GDUFS, which is to be the first in South China. New students and teachers will be recruited in September, just before Mr.Ciebien's departure. Thus, President ZHONG sincerely invited Mr. Ciebien to attend the celebration for the establishment of this major.

Mr. Ciebien has lived in Guangzhou for five years, since 2009, and he is going to leave office this year. He said  it was very pleasant to work in Guangzhou and he would miss everything after leaving. And, he also expressed that he thought highly of the decision that GDUFS was to establish a Polish language and culture major. He hoped that GDUFS continues to widen and strengthen cooperation with Polish colleges, adding more exchanges and academic communications. "Knowing the background and the Polish language, GDUFS students will be able to  have more opportunities in Poland and other EU countries."he said, He also commented;"I think this project will be successful and I hope more people in Guangzhou can speak Polish."

President ZHONG mentioned the young Polish poet who visited GDUFS recently and he pointed out that Polish literature has a great popularity in China. He noted that he wished the establishment of the Polish language and culture major would attract more talented students to make contributions to China-Polish literary  translation so that we, not only import Polish literature to China, but also export Chinese literature to Poland.

Mr.Ciebien warmly welcomed GDUFS teachers and students to visit an exhibition being held by the Polish Consulate in Guangzhou which  tells about a Polish missionary, named Michel Boym, who travelled to China in the 17th century. He says he is looking forward to more envoys like Boym, taking up more challenges and making Chinese culture better known in Poland.
