On 17 September, the education delegation from Arequipa, Peru arrived at GDUFS starting their visiting aimed at developing exchange activities. The delegation was met in the VIP lounge of executive office building. The meeting was attended by FANG Fanquan, the Vice President of GDUFS, WANG Fenglan, Deputy Dean of the School of International Students and WU Junfeng, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs.
The delegation was led by YI Zongyong, the Chinese President of the Confucius Institute in the Catholic University of Santa Maria, (UCSM), and the group included Jorge Luis Caceres Arce, Dean of the School of Politics and Law of UCSM, Jaime Dante Cardenas Garcia, Dean of the School of Biology and Medicine of UCSM, and four other university presidents, as well as four secondary school representatives from the city of Arequipa, in Peru.
Vice President FANG extended a warm welcome to the visiting Presidents and other representatives, presented general information about GDUFS, and he noted that GDUFS features foreign language teaching with 18 foreign languages being offered to students, cultivation of professional skills to prepare outstanding students for their careers and that GDUFS ranks second in terms of the employment rate of students following only Tsinghua University. He also mentioned that the Spanish language major has been the hottest major at GDUFS in recent years, a department that enjoys the highest enrollment scores among undergraduate students.
Jorge Luis Caceres Arce expressed appreciation for the hospitality shown on the part of GDUFS on behalf of the delegation. He said,"China is a great country with a long history and a modern style." Other members of the delegation also introduced basic information about their institutions and expressed their hope of cooperating with GDUFS and the establishment of Confucius Institutes at their universities.
The Confucius Institute of Catholic University of Santa Maria is one of the three overseas Confucius Institutes founded by GDUFS with the support provided by Hanban and Confucius Institute Headquarters. The exchange work goes on smoothly between China and Peruwith the aim of promoting the development of the Confucius Institutes in Catholic University of Santa Maria as well and further facilitating the understanding of Chinese language, culture, education and social conditions among CI (Confucius Institute) staff,local educators, and helping local governments. The aim is to develop Chinese language education and, with the assistance of the delegation of ten presidents and representatives from CUSM, San Jose University, the Domingo Savio secondary school and the La Salle secondary School, all accompanied by YI Zongyong, to make significant progress in the near future.
