Meeting the Delegation from Nanyang Technological University

On April 22nd, 2016, a delegation from Nanyang Technological University visited GDUFS and talked about cooperation. President ZHONG Weihe met with the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building.

In the opening meeting, President ZHONG firstly extended his warm welcome to all the guests and recalled the past collaboration  between the two universities. In addition, he provided the delegation with a general introduction of GDUFS , especially mentioning that compared with other foreign languages institutes in China, GDUFS is distinguished by its abundant subjects and short distance from NTU. President ZHONG also showed his strong wish to cooperate with NTU on some programmes to deepen the connections between different faculties of the two universities.

Professor LIU Hong, Chair of School of Humanities & Social Sciences of NTU, said that with the rapid development in recent years, NTU ranked 13th in the QS (World University Rankings) and 55th in THE (Times Higher Education).It has made great contributions to developing Chinese intermediate and senior officials since 1992.

After a brief introduction about NTU, Professor LIU expressed his desire to continue and deepen the cooperation with the School of Interpreting & Translation Studies at GDUFS. Apart from the collaboration with languages-studying programmes, LIU hoped that the two partner institutions can go further in communicating with other subjects, such as literature, economics, law and so on. Not only just focusing on establishing courses such as Master’s Degrees, both of them should also emphasize the connections to be made in scientific research. At last, LIU highlighted that it was their experienced teachers who knew Chinese and western cultures inside out that made NTU a close partner with GDUFS.

And then, President ZHONG preliminarily conceived the idea of setting up a double-Master’s Degree programme, in which students can learn humanities and cultures at NTU and adequately practise what they have learned at GDUFS. After that, students can acquire two certificates respectively from the two universities.

Finally, President ZHONG and Professor LIU exchanged gifts with each other and took photos together.
