On April 20, a delegation led by Dima Noggo Sarbo, Chairperson of Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Standing Committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives of Ethiopia, visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Officials from the National People’s Congress and the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress accompanied the delegation. President Yan Xiangbin met with the guests in Conference Room 1 of the Baiyun Mountain Campus, where the two sides held in-depth discussions on China-Ethiopia educational cooperation and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
Yan extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He noted that, as a key provincially administered university with a strong international orientation, GDUFS has long been committed to advancing international educational cooperation and promoting educational exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and African civilizations. He expressed the university’s willingness to take this visit as an opportunity to further expand cooperation with Ethiopian universities.

Dima Noggo Sarbo spoke highly of GDUFS’s educational strengths and international influence. He stated that Ethiopia attaches great importance to its friendly relations with China, and that people-to-people exchanges between the two countries provide solid support for the development of bilateral ties. He expressed hope for deeper cooperation with GDUFS in educational resource sharing, joint talent cultivation, and academic research, so as to support the development of education and talent cultivation in Ethiopia.

During the meeting, representatives from the Institute for African Studies of the School of Global and Area Studies introduced the research achievements and ongoing work related to Africa. Ethiopian international student representatives shared their experiences of studying and living at the university, expressing their willingness to serve as ambassadors of cultural exchange between China and Ethiopia and contribute to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
