A virtual reality (VR) studio, recently put to use at GDUFS, was constructed in line with the highest standard and boasts advanced technology that dwarfs other universities nationwide. President ZHONG Weihe and other experts were present for its inauguration.

VR technology usually refers to technology used to generate realistic images, sounds and other sensations that replicate a real environment or an imaginary setting. Installed with a combination of VR technology and multimedia facilities, the studio has become a cutting-edge center for foreign-language teaching. Four major functions of the studio are: scenario-based learning, scenario-based lecture recording, lecture recording and playing as well as training via VR . The studio can fully meet the needs for improving students’ language capacity in social practice and for better teaching resources. Furthermore, it will help facilitate the establishment of a new methods of lecture evaluation and stimulate students’ active participation in class.

President ZHONG Weihe has full confidence in the studio’s contribution to teaching – given its high-end technology and high constructing quality. He pointed out that the next step would be to create a new way of lecture recording, to publish related textbooks, and to promote the online lectures in translation and interpretation, for which appropriately-designed teaching methods and disciplines will be required. He encouraged the teaching staff at our university to make the best of the studio together with the innovative teaching model on its sharing platform. “In the era of artificial intelligence, our teachers should explore a new model for IT-based teaching,” he added.
