The Memory of Spring Festival

Spring Festival is one of the most important days in China. During these years, it has left me with many memories.

When the Spring Festival was coming, my mother would take me and my younger brother to buy some new clothes. It was a tradition to buy some new clothes during Chinese New Year in my hometown. I could choose any pretty clothes and shoes that I wanted. And we would put on the clothes on New Year’s Eve.

On New Year’s Eve, my family would sit around the table and have a family reunion dinner. It was a big dinner and there were various kinds of delicious food on the table. After dinner, we would watch the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV 1 together. On that evening, many TV channels were transmitting this program at the same time. Although I did not like to watch it, I enjoyed the moment of being together with my family.

On the first day of the first lunar month, my parents would take me to pay a visit to my relatives. I would encounter many relatives who I did not have the opportunity to visit over the past year. Besides, many relatives would visit us, too. They would bring some gifts, which were usually fruits and soft drinks.

One memory of the Spring Festival is about the red packets. My parents and relatives would give me red packets containing lucky money. When I was a child, I felt very happy to be a rich girl with much lucky money. However, I had to give all the money to my father afterwards. He always said that this money would be saved for paying my tuition fees. Therefore, I could only be rich for a few days at that time.
