On the evening of December 1st, students from the Polish Language Department performed a fantastic drama, showing their unique understanding of Polish culture. Mao Yinhui, the Dean of the Polish Language Department and Agnieszka Jasińska, the foreign teacher of the Polish Language Department hosted this ceremony. Guests presenting the ceremony were Joanna Skoczek, the Consul of Polish Consulate in Guangzhou; Piotr Horbatowski, the Professor of Cracow Jagiellonian University; Polish representatives in Guangzhou and students from the Polish Language Department.

MAO and Ms. Jasinska were hosting the ceremony

The drama was adapted from a book written by Sławomir Mrożek, telling a story about three extreme hungers lost in the ocean. Starving to death, they decided to eat one of them. Then, a ridiculous story started which was full of lies, threats and schemes. Each of the three did not give up saving their own lives until the bloody slaughter finally came. Students’ brilliant performance let the audience have a feeling that they were in that small boat, and they joined the characters’ argument.

At the end of the drama, Ms. Skoczek praised the students for their splendid performance, as well as fluent Polish. Ms. Skoczek presented some outstanding students with diplomas as they volunteered for the consulate or won prizes in the writing competition. And Polish members of the audience were surprised by these students because of their good command of the Polish language. At last, MAO specially thanked Professor Horbatowski for his help with this successful performance.

This ceremony is viewed as a conclusion of last year’s drama competition. Preparing for two months, students improved a lot in both performing and Polish, and eventually convinced attendees of GDUFS’ high level of language education.
