ZHANG Wei delivering a speech

ZHANG Wei gave a speech, centered on the consciousness of scientific selection of research topics in interpretation studies. ZHANG pointed out that interpretation studies is a relatively newly developed field, and so the research topics should be innovative, normative and leading. At the same time, ZHANG offered precious suggestions for doctoral students on how to select research topics. The suggestions are that doctoral students should have experience consciousness, discipline consciousness, innovation consciousness, comparison consciousness and challenge consciousness. Finally, ZHANG elaborated on the direction and level of selecting research subjects, the value as well as profound feasibility analysis of the selected research subjects.

SONG Xuezhi delivering a speech

SONG Xuezhi shared his experience and opinions on doctoral studies and thesis writing. He suggested that in the process of learning, doctoral students should develop awareness of asking questions, start with specific problems and gain breakthrough from specific problems. Meanwhile, doctoral students should seek more opportunities to consult and talk to experts, supervisors or authorities. SONG also thought it important for doctoral students to pay attention to their internal and external development, cultivate meticulous working and learning style and critical thinking.

During the two days’ forum, doctoral students communicated with each other deeply and exchanged many unique ideas. They also got lots of constructive advice from experienced doctoral supervisors by presenting their papers. And in the closing ceremony, two student delegates shared their gains.

YUAN Rongjie sharing her gains

YUAN Rongjie, doctoral student from Shanghai International Studies University, said that she had gained many new ideas about choosing the theme of her papers. She also quoted a saying to explain her ideas, which was “doing research lonely, but communicating actively”. In order to absorb more professional knowledge, students had to tolerate the boring studies. Meanwhile they also needed to exchange ideas with others so that they could understand themselves better.

XU Yi sharing her gains

GDUFS’ doctoral student XU Yi thanked all of the participants and shared some information about the forum. She reported that there were more than 80 papers from doctoral supervisors’ recommendations and doctoral students’ contributions in this year’s forum, which was really great progress compared with last year. Looking back on the past two days, XU realized that doing research is challenging, and it requires diligence, persistence, even a bit of luck.

ZHANG Junfeng addressing the closing ceremony

The Dean of the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies of GDUFS, ZHAO Junfeng, gave a short speech to close the forum. In his speech, he firstly expressed his sincere thanks to the organizer, sponsor, volunteers and all the others involved in contributing to the success of the forum. Then, he indicated that the forum had established a platform for doctoral supervisors and doctoral students from different universities around the country to have effective academic exchange and communication, and suggested that the forum should be held more frequently, such as once every two years. At the end, ZHAO announced that the 4th National Translatology Forum would be held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
