An International Seminar on Cognitive Poetics takes place at GDUFS

From 23rd to 24th October, the Faculty of English Language and Culture presided over the 2nd International Seminar and the 4th National Seminar on Cognitive Poetics in on the north campus at GDUFS. The seminars were sponsored by the Chinese Association of Cognitive Poetics. Its theme was “Cognitive Poetics under Multi-dimensional View”. President ZHONG Weihe attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcoming speech.

Scholars made a keynote speech and then discussed the theory and practice of cognitive poetics. The seminar invited Professor Peter Stockwell from the University of Nottingham, Professor Mark Turner from Case Western Reserve University, Professor Lisa Zunshine from the University of Kentucky , Professor Elena Semino from Lancaster University, Doctor Joanna Gavins from the University of Nottingham, Professor FENG Zongxin from Tsinghua University, Professor LAN Chun from Beijing University of Foreign Studies and Professor TANG Weisheng of our school. All the scholars were active in the discussion and the seminar achieved a great success.

The seminar covered nearly all the important topics on the international cognitive poetics, including thinking patterns, discourse world, multimodal cognitive poetics, schema, theory of mind. A few scholars attempt to apply the theory of cognitive poetics to analyzing literature, myths and legends, religious discourse and comics. It obtaineda positive result and manifested the great explanatory ability in the cognitive poetics.
