After preparing for a period of time, the Archives of GDUFS has been set up. On June, 10th, 2015, the Plaque Conferring Ceremony of the Archives of GDUFS and the seminar of the International Archives Day were held at the International Conference Hall of the Administrative Building of the North Campus. Those who attended the meeting were WANG Lan, Chief of the Department of Policies and Laws of the State Archives Administration, PENG Wanli, Deputy Director of the Supervision Office of Archives of the Bureau of Guangdong Province, ZHONG Weihe, President of GDUFS, and persons in charge of archival work of other universities in Guangdong Province. The meeting was hosted by HE Chuantian, Vice-President of GDUFS.

“The archives can not only help us span time and space, but also inherit the culture of our universities’ past. What’s more, it supports the management, constitutes the intellectual property of GDUFS and safeguards rights and interests of all parties.” In his address, WANG Lan highlighted the significance of the archives with these words. “While the Archives are precisely the place for preserving these records, as an old saying goes, because the historians never cease their work, the records of history can be kept for a long time. Thus, though people were dead, their stories still exist, shining as eternal stars. In appreciation of the value of the archives, China has paid great attention to the works of this type, proposing that “we need to give future generations the ability to touch history” and, to better grasp the future, “we need to computerize those archives.”

President ZHONG introduced the origin of the International Council on Archives and the International Archives Day (June, 9th) and explained that the purpose for the meeting was to publicize the importance of archival work. He pointed out that our school had always paid great attention to the archival work, which was regarded as fundamental. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of GDUFS, through integrating the existing resources, our school set up the Archives on June, 5th and held the Plaque Awarding Ceremony on June, 10th. While ZHONG also proposed his best wishes for the promise of the Archives: first, they should attach great importance to the nature of the archival work itself, which will be of great benefit for future generations; second, it should sort out our university’s history on occasion of the 50th anniversary; third, it should innovate the idea that, in the collection of archives, the ideal would be turning the passive into the active.
