Professors of Columbia University USA visit GDUFS

On January 13, Jeanette C. Takamura, Dean of the School of Social Work at Columbia University/USA, and Professor Neeraj Kaushal of the same School of Social Work visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). At the north campus, FANG Fanquan, Vice-President of GDUFS, met with them in the VIP room. Additionally, YI Zongyong, officer of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange and, additionally, FU Guifang, Deputy Dean of the School of Politics and Public Administration were present.

Fang Fanquan presented general information about GDUFS and its internationalized features to the guests, and Takamura introduced the key information about the recruitment of Chinese students to Columbia University. They also discussed the development and employment of the discipline of Social Work. Takamura mentioned that, in China,students who have majored in Social Work in America are in great demand and go on to become the high-level talents in important departments like in local and the National Government. Additionally the two professors showed great interest in the Confucius Institute, so Vice-President Fang introduced the general situation of the Confucius Institute to them. Finally, they gave each other souvenirs of the visit and all noted that they hoped to continue to promote the cultural and academic exchange between Columbia University and GDUFS.

It was learned that, on the afternoon of 12th, January, Professor Jeanette C. Takamura and Professor Neeraj Kaushal met and exchanged ideas with teachers and students of the School of Politics and Public Administration on the South Campus.

First of all they introduced the specialties, education and teaching approaches and plans for future development of the School of Social Work at Columbia University. There followed an animated discussion and exchange of ideas with our teachers and students about the social problems caused by the mobility of international personnel.
