This May has witnessed the blossom of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) at the Ural Federal University (UrFU). This was the first time for the Confucius Institute in UrFU to hold the HSK. It was the second time where a total of 45 students participated in the exam at one time.

The HSK test consists of 6 levels. The majority of examinees from this past exam primarily registered to test between level 2 through level 5. Those who challenged level 4 and level 5 are more often than not the intermediate Chinese learners or above who have been learning Chinese for ages. Quite a few of them are frenetic Chinese fans who have already managed to pass previous levels with a high score last December when the HSK was held for the first time in UrFU. They expressed their determination to accomplish the test level by level in UrFU. The previous HSK held last December, held a pass rate of 100%, with 60% of the examinees achieving a score of 80 or higher.

The examinees came not only from the Confucius Institute in UrFU, but also Yekaterinburg and regions in the vicinity. Some of them had to drive hundreds of kilometers from their habitation early in the morning in order to be on time.

There were two examinees participated in the first speaking portion of the HSK (the HSKK) held in UrFU on May 12th. Their teacher said that she gave full credit for her students' ability and believed that they would handle the test well.

The newly-established test centre has not only provided examinees with convenience, but also alleviates the pressing concern of having to use a poorly-distributed facility. Moreover, the Confucius Institute in UrFU has also been preparing for other Chinese language tests after successfully conducting the first HSK last December, including the Young Learners Chinese Test (YCT), which will be held over the second half of this year. Having accumulated rich experience by organizing the last two examination, the staff of the UrFU Confucius Institute believe that by continuing to maintain the facilities and managerial mechanisms, the service is expected to continue to perfect itself and be a more and more satisfying test facility.
