June 10th --- The Forth English Proficiency Contest of Guangdong University Students Final was held in Zhanjiang Normal University on June 1st. The team Pursuers, consisting of 3 students --Yu Yingjun, Zhang Haiqi and Liu Cong from the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies (SITS) of GDUFS won the first prize with an absolute advantage with the diligent support of their tutor, Xing Jie.

65 teams from 37 universities participated in this year's contest. After the semi-final, comprising a prepared speech on "My Vision of Chinese Dream", 12 teams managed to the final.

The final was unfolded in the format of simulated press conferences. Each team was required to give a 2-minute brief on the given topic before answering 3 questions from the judges and audience while another team served as their interpreters. The topic given to Pursuers was "the employment situation for Guangdong 2013 graduates".

During the two-minute brief, Yu Yingjun made a general introduction to the employment situation of Guangdong in the last 2 years to the audience with the support of physical statistics. He also pointed out that this year's employment situation is rather severe as the initial employment rate had suffered a 7% drop compared with that of the same period last year. He then brought forward measures to be taken from the aspects of government, schools as well as Individual Students. In the Q&A (Question and answer) section, while being asked what preparation students could do for seeking a better job, Zhang Haiqi encouraged students to make a career design and vocation development plan in advance to find out what they were interested in and, more importantly, what they were capable of, and make the best use of their talents and advantages as a result. In the next question, Liu Cong raised in her answer that government should also shoulder the responsibility to gradually transfer the present export-oriented economy to a domestic-demand-oriented economy so as to be more economically independent. In the interpretation section, they impressed the judges and audience by their split-second reaction, professional interpreting skills and excellent teamwork and therefore they eventually turned out to be the only team with 90+ score among all the others and earned the title of Champion.

After the contest, the winning team expressed their gratitude towards GDUFS and SITS and also appreciated the Contest for providing them such an unforgettable and fruitful experience.
