A Fruitful Journey: President Zhong Invited to the UK and Belgium

June 7t--President Zhong Weihe along with his assistant Chen Linhan and the Dean of the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies Ping Hong paid a fruitful visit to the UK and Belgium at the invitation of the Department of Translation of EU (DG Translation) and other academic organizations.

 

On May 24th, the party from GDUFS attended the 1st Language Industry Web Platform Forum hosted by the DG Translation. The forum, which brought together near 100 organizations, discussed matters concerning the prospects of the language industry, translator training and cooperation development. During the forum, President Zhong exchanged ideas with other speakers at the forum about the academic and professional criteria for translator training.

 

The party visited the Department of Interpretation (DG SCIC) later and was received by the Director of DG SCIC Brian Fox. President Zhong expressed the hope to develop cooperation with DG SCIC on tests, training and internship opportunities for interpreters. Mr. Fox shared his appreciation of the significance of the cooperation between DG SCIC and varied universities and responded that he will visit Guangzhou some time this year to take concrete action on establishing cooperative relations with GDUFS.

On May 25th, a seminar on European Master's in Translation (EMT) was held as part of the Europe-China Intercultural Dialogue. President Zhong, who is also the Vice President of the Translators Association of China, delivered a speech on ''China MTI, an Effort to Intercultural Dialogue'' at the seminar. He focused on  the development of the MTI project in China and what China has done in seeking cooperation with related academic organizations in Europe.

The GDUFS delegation arrived in the UK on May 27th. They first visited the University of Bedfordshire and held talks with Vice President Ashraf. President Zhong later signed an agreement with Vice President Ashraf for cooperation with the 3+1 Double Degree Project. The party then traveled to the University of Lancaster to discuss issues regarding the ongoing GDUFS-Lancaster University project. On May 30th, they headed to the University of Central Lancashire to attend the The Global Student Experience International Symposium, during which President Zhong gave a speech on the internationally-oriented education mode of GDUFS.

The school officials also met with some of the teachers from GDUFS that are currently studying in Europe during their stay in the UK and Belgium.
