The College of Art Participated in the Biennale

On November 20th, the opening ceremony of 1st Biennale of the Academy Awards of Guangdong College of Fine Art was hosted at the Ucity Art Museum of GAFA (Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts). As the standing director of the Art and Design Education Specialty Committee in Guangdong, the College of Art of GDUFS prepared for it actively. And it selected excellent works for this exhibition. Recently, a delegation from GDUFS, which included FANG Fanquan, Vice President; and LI Yukun, Dean of the College of Art, went to Ucity Art Museum to attend this biennale. They received a warm reception from Professor CHEN Weihe, Secretary General of the Committee.

This exhibition was co-sponsored by Guangdong Education Department and the Guangdong Artists Association, and it was co-presented by GAFA and the Ucity Art Museum of GAFA. Altogether, there were 40 delegations from the College of Art of different universities in Guangdong in this exhibition. This exhibition showcased the teaching and creation situation of universities in Guangdong.

The exhibited works of our university were made up of creative works and teaching materials. Teaching materials vividly showed the teaching features of the Department of Art and Design. And the creative works included some paintings and calligraphies by teachers, which showed the competence of our teachers in creation and teaching. After listening to the report on the works created by the Department of Art and Design of GDUFS at the event, FANG Fanquan gave it credit for its high creation level, the teaching reform and fine exhibition effect. He said that the Department of Art and Design of GDUFS had a clear teaching aim, and it employed the knowledge of different areas and several teaching methods in the process of curriculum teaching. Besides, it encouraged students to be independent in judgement. FANG also thought that its teaching idea was innovative, for it focused on teaching students the research method and cultivating their thinking skills.

Universities in Guangdong Province had pioneered in hosting the biennale of academic awards. And they made it a provincial event. This exhibition was a platform for exchange ideas. And it would improve the teaching quality of fine arts, improve the personnel training mode, as well as improve the artistic creation.

From the 600 pieces of exhibited works, the top 100 were ranked.《1920·Pearl River》, which was co-created by LI Yukun and LUO Ling, won second prize among all the creation works.
