The competition was under the auspices of the School Department of the Central Committee, the Secretariat of the All-China Students Federation and Beijing University of Foreign Studies and was sponsored by the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, China Education Television and Guilin University of Electronic Technology. It lasted from April 24 to 26 and consisted of a five-round race and a final. The topic was announced 15 minutes before the debate. Every debater had to state his opinion and answer any questions raised in 7 minutes. All these were great challenges to a student’s range of knowledge, logical reasoning, the ability of English Application and psychological quality.

During the five-round race, our debaters had fierce debates with those from Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Shantou University, Guangxi University and others, revolving around topics like ‘Should Sports Clubs Sign Contracts with Minor Athletes’, ‘Should Government Levy Higher Taxes in Order to Combat Gender Inequality’ , ‘Should Government Set a Maximum Working Hour?’ , ‘Should Terrorists Be Tried by Military Courts?’ and other hot-spot issues from home and abroad. Our debaters ranked first and entered the final phases readily. They won a top reputation for GDUFS on account of their wide range of knowledge, strict logical reasoning, excellent competence of English and strong psychological quality.
