On the afternoon of April 11, the Consul General of Hungary in Guangzhou, Mr. Péter Várfi, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin welcomed the delegation in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides exchanged views on academic program development, talent cultivation, and cultural exchanges.

President Yan Xiangbin gave the guests a detailed introduction to the university’s strengths in international education and the development of its Hungarian Language major. He noted that the friendship between China and Hungary has a long history. As a prestigious institution with the greatest variety of foreign language programs in South China, it is committed to cultivating globally competent talents and actively promotes China-Hungary exchanges. In 2023, the university launched the Hungarian Language major, which is the first undergraduate Hungarian language program in South China. Through the PRIME Program for international exchange, the university has continued to expand cooperation with Hungarian universities. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that with support from the consulate, the university could deepen cooperation with more Hungarian institutions in areas such as faculty exchange, cultural studies, and educational collaboration. He emphasized the goal of strengthening the training of Hungarian language professionals and cultivating interdisciplinary talents with cross-cultural competence to contribute to China-Hungary economic and cultural exchanges.
Mr. Várfi expressed his support and high expectations for the development of the university’s Hungarian Language major. He said he would continue to deepen cooperation with the university and strongly support the growth of the Hungarian Language major. He was willing to play the role of a bridge between GDUFS and Hungarian higher education institutions to help nurture Hungarian language professionals. He looked forward to witnessing more tangible outcomes in Hungary-Guangdong cooperation and to jointly promoting cultural and educational prosperity between the two countries, contributing to the enduring friendship between Hungary and China.
