On the afternoon of April 18, the Consul General of Nepal in Guangzhou, Mr. Bharat Khanal, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin welcomed the delegation in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. Both sides exchanged views on educational cooperation, cultural exchanges, and economic and trade cooperation.

President Yan Xiangbin extended a warm welcome to Mr. Khanal and congratulated him on his new post. He provided an overview of the university, highlighting its academic strengths and the distinctive features of internationalization. As a key institution for cultivating international talents in South China, the university leverages its strengths in foreign language education and global governance studies to support the Belt and Road Initiative by cultivating interdisciplinary talents. President Yan went on to stress that China and Nepal are long-standing friendly neighbors with fruitful cooperation. The university values exchanges with Nepal and has already carried out collaborative scientific research and academic forums. Looking ahead, he expressed hope to strengthen ties with more Nepali universities and institutions, promote faculty and student exchanges, and foster broader cooperation in cultural and educational exchanges. He also welcomed more Nepali students to study at the university, with the aim of injecting new vitality into bilateral relations and contributing to the development of both countries and the friendship between China and Nepal.
Mr. Khanal expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised the university’s talent cultivation model. He noted that China and Nepal enjoy a time-honored friendship and have engaged in in-depth cooperation in various fields such as infrastructure and energy under the Belt and Road Initiative. With 2025 marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China, he hoped to take this opportunity to further promote economic and peaceful development between the two countries. He proposed establishing the university as an important partner to deepen multi-level cooperation between higher education institutions and expand collaboration in areas such as AI, sustainable development, and cultural tourism. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing youth exchanges in cultural and academic fields to contribute wisdom and strength to the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
