Trinity Western University Delegation Visits GDUFS

On the morning of January 7, Dr. Philip Laird, Vice President of Trinity Western University (TWU), and his delegation visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Shen Minghao received the guests at the VIP Hall of the Administration Building at the Baiyun Mountain Campus. Both sides exchanged views on educational cooperation and cultural exchange.

Highlight from the Meeting

Vice President Shen Minghao warmly welcomed Dr. Laird and his delegation on their return visit and provided an update on GDUFS’s recent developments. He emphasized GDUFS’s national leadership in fields such as foreign language and literature studies, economics, management, law, and international communication. Notably, the university has achieved outstanding results in national research initiatives such as the National Social Science Fund of China, ranking among the top in Guangdong Province. Shen further highlighted GDUFS’s strong commitment to internationalization through its PRIME Program for global exchange and collaboration. To date, the university has established partnerships with 511 universities and academic institutions across 66 countries and regions, fostering frequent academic interactions. He also noted that the International College, celebrating its 20th anniversary, has sent over 13,000 students abroad, making it one of China’s largest training centers for overseas study. As the new year unfolds, bringing new opportunities, Vice President Shen expressed hope for enhanced cooperation with TWU in faculty and student exchanges, scholar visits, talent development, and scientific research, contributing to the advancement of education in both countries.

Dr. Laird expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception from GDUFS and highly praised the university’s achievements in foreign language education and internationalization. He provided an overview of TWU, highlighting its strengths in nursing, biology, environmental science, and management. Emphasizing the critical role of nurturing future leaders, he conveyed TWU’s eagerness to deepen collaboration with GDUFS in talent development and academic research, with the goal of advancing educational collaboration and development between the two universities and between Canada and China.
