Students from GDUFS Excel in National Mathematics Competition

North Campus, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, May 23^th, 2022: Recently, the results of the 2022 Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) have been announced. Thirty-five groups from GDUFS overcame the impact of the corona virus and pandemic to get fully involved in the competition. All the groups had won awards, including 1 Finalist, 4 Meritorious Winners, 8 Honorable Mentions and 22 Successful Participants. This is the second time that GDUFS has won the award since 2020, which fully demonstrates the high level of mathematical ability of the undergraduates from GDUFS, and reflects positively on the teaching reform and construction effect of the university’s mathematics courses.

The Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest In Modeling (MCM/ICM) is sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application (COMAP). It is the only international Mathematical Contest in Modeling and the most influential competition in this field all around the world. The competition requires a group of 3 participants to finish a complete English paper on the specified problem within four days. The thesis must include mathematical modeling, model solving, experimental simulation and result verification. The aim of this competition is to analyze mathematical models to examine practical problems and offer solutions. The emphasis is on research problems, the originality of the solution, teamwork, communication and the rationality of results. The competition this year attracted 27,205 teams from universities in 22 countries and regions, and more than 81,000 college students participated in it.
