The deputy mayor of Recife, accompanied by his wife and some municipal officers, paid a visit to the south campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) on April 20. Recife is Brazil's fifth largest city, located in the northeast of the country.
The deputy mayor said that the President of Brazil thought highly of the relations with China. He was happy to hear that there were now 400 students majoring in Spanish in GDUFS. He advised GDUFS to open a Portuguese department which would help to tighten the economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
Mr. Dong Xiaolin, vice-president of GDUFS, together with other school leaders received the guests. The deputy mayor's ebullience affected the students though there were some language obstacles. The deputy mayor asked the students about their living habits and what books they were interested in. When leaving GDUFS, he took some photos with the students and said farewell in Chinese.
