The Minister-Counselor of the UK Visits GDUFS and Expresses a Desire for Profound Cooperation in Education between China and Britain

On April 1st, 2015, Michael Charlton, Minister-Counsellor, Deputy Director-General of UK Trade and Investment China visited GDUFS. President ZHONG Weihe and Vice President CHEN Linhan received them in the VIP Hall of the Administrative Building of the North Campus. During the meeting, President ZHONG introduced the status quo and future development of GDUFS’s international cooperation programs including the progress of GDUFS-Lancaster joint university project, while the Minister-Counsellor expressed his hope to expand the scope of collaboration in education between GDUFS and Britain.

This is the first time for Michael Charlton to visit GDUFS. At the beginning, President ZHONG gave a brief introduction of the university’s history, current development and future plans. GDUFS has made remarkable progress in both language teaching and research and has established cooperative relationships with over 20 British universities including Lancaster University, Warwick University, Coventry University and more. Each year, over 700 students of GDUFS go abroad for further studies in the UK via various programs. Among GDUFS’s overseas partners, Lancaster University has been in friendly cooperation with us for more than 40 years which has always been a model example of all the cooperative programs. Apart from its rich foreign language courses, GDUFS is also famous for its programs in foreign trade, among which, the MBA program is one of the most popular.

Michael Charlton, who is in charge of promoting cooperation associated with cultural and creative industries and education, was very interested in the GDUFS- Lancaster joint university project. He expressed his willingness to provide needed assistance for the implementation of this program. Moreover, he welcomes additional insights both in education, sciences and technology and wishes to see more Chinese students to further their studies in the UK and more Chinese delegations to visit the Great Britain.
