Poland’s Ambassador Talks about Bilateral Relationships at GDUFS

        On the morning of May 22nd, Poland’s Ambassador, Tadeusz Chomicki and Consul General of Poland in Guangzhou, Joanna Skoczek, visited GDUFS and had a meeting with President ZHONG Weihe and Vice president FANG Fanquan at the VIP Hall of the Administrative Building. After that, Ambassador Tadeusz Chomicki delivered a lecture for GDUFS students. CAI Hong, Director of the Office of International Communication and Exchanges, YANG Ke, Dean of the Faculty of European Language and Culture and teachers of Polish Language Studies also attended the meeting and the lecture.

       Due to the bad weather, Ambassador Tadeusz Chomicki voyage from Beijing was quite a hard one but he promised to continue to be active in communications with the universities of China to develop further cooperation and improve China-Poland relationships. He mentioned that there used to be two Regional China-Poland Cooperation Forums, respectively held in Shanghai and Guangzhou, and that a third forum was under discussion. He hoped there would be more cooperation and exchange programs between China and Poland. Ambassador Tadeusz Chomicki thought highly of GDUFS students of Polish studies, as one student had won the first prize in the Polish Voice Intonation Contest at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Beijing last year. He said he would spare no efforts to advocate more cooperation in educational programs between China and Poland, making contributions to the One Belt and One Road initiative

 

       President ZHONG expressed his gratitude for the endeavor Ambassador Tadeusz Chomicki had made to develop China-Poland relationships. Too, he pointed out that attracting more students to study about Poland is becoming more and more significant with the OBOR initiative. Concerning the exchange programs, President ZHONG was told that teachers of Polish Language Studies had strived greatly bringing 11 students to take part in a summer program in Poland.

      At the end of the meeting, President ZHONG sent a calligraphy roll as a gift to Ambassador Chomicki. As a return, the ambassador presented a rare classical CD of Chopin. President ZHONG invited Ambassador Chomicki to write something for GDUFS 50th anniversary, which presented the ambassador’s wishes and congratulations.

 

       At around nine o’clock, the ambassador’s delegation and GDUFS delegation moved to the International Meeting Room, where the Ambassador gave a lecture to GDUFS students. He mainly made comments and showed prospects for China-Poland relationships. He pointed out that most people in China believed that Poland was an Eastern-European country, yet the truth is that it belongs to Western Europe. The ambassador talked about the developmental history of China-Poland relationships, expressing his confidence for the future. He believed that with the development of China’s and Poland’s economy and markets, and the OBOR initiative there would be a win-win result. To achieve mutual understanding, we need more students who are good at both sides’ language and culture. He sincerely hoped that more regional cooperation could be realized. At the end of the lecture, students from Polish Language Studies put forward questions in fluent Polish winning the ambassador’s praise.

Ambassador Tadeusz Chomicki

Born 1962 in Warsaw. Graduate, Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw (1986). Post-graduate studies in Oxford, Balliol College, (sociology and philosophy) and European University Institute in Florence (international relations and political economy). Fellow of the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Sociology (1989-1992). Researcher in social studies (1982-1992). Joined Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992. UN civil officer in Cambodia (UNTAC, 1993). Head of a Division in the Department of Africa, Asia, Australia and Pacific (1994), subsequently its Deputy Director (from 1995). Director of Department of Export Policy (1998-2001) responsible in the MFA for export controls, defense industries cooperation, nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and partially for arms control and disarmament. Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Korea (2001-2005). Since 2005, Ambassador, Deputy Director of the Security Policy Department, MFA, responsible for disarmament, nonproliferation, export controls and defense industries cooperation. Director of the Minister’s Office (2007- 2008) and Director of the Asia Pacific Department (2008-2009). Since October 2009 Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the People's Republic of China and to Mongolia.
